A Beautiful New Adventure

A Beautiful New Adventure

I asked my wife, Priscilla, to write a guest post on this blog today and give her thoughts on our latest news. These are her reflections on our expectancy. - Kris

Well, we announced it today. We announced something that I had long believed we would never get to announce. We are having a baby! It’s a statement we hear all the time, but when Kris and I say it, it sounds wild and extravagant to our ears. And the truth is, I don’t really know what to say.

We got married almost 10 years ago, and we assumed our life would take us down the “normal” path – marriage, jobs, a house and kids. What actually happened was so different than normal. The first parts of that plan fell into place pretty quickly and easily, and then there were the kids.

It didn’t happen and it didn’t happen and it didn’t happen. We prayed and pleaded and cried, and it didn’t happen. And then, something amazing. Something so miraculous. Unexpected. God met us in the midst of our longings, in the midst of our heartache and filled us with joy in the land of barrenness – in the middle of our emptiness, He filled us.

The thing is, He filled us four years ago. That was when we first began to feel content. We had this peace in the midst of absence that we just couldn’t understand. God gave it to us. We still have it. And now, God is giving us something new.

And today we announced it. Nothing is too big for our God. We are having a baby girl, and that is a beautiful thing. We serve a God who sees us. The same Jesus who holds us as we cry, and the same Jesus who heals our broken hearts, is the same Jesus who is leading us on this new adventure. We serve the God of miracles.

Isaiah 43:1b-2: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through the fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.”
